My work inspired by Vee Speers

I tried to recreate two of Speers photos, one from 'Thirteen' and the other from 'The birthday party'

Thirteen-
The Birthday Party-

After doing one photo from Speers album 'Thirteen' i decided not to recreate more but to see if i could create my own along the same concept of 'Thirteen' I tried to keep the photos elegant and angelic

Depth of field

Depth of Field Example Image

"Depth of field refers to the range of distance that appears acceptably sharp"

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/depth-of-field.htm Is a really good help sight for understanding Depth of field  it has good photos and information set out clearly.

This photo is of bad quality as it is from http://www.perou.co.uk/ which does not allow you to copy/save Perou's photos.
This photo has a very short depth of field as it is took in a studio against a white wall. The shot is in focus, even the background which makes it clear. Justin Bieber is the focus of this fashion shoot.

I had the same problem with this photo, but I like it as the depth of field isnt as big as it looks in the photo. The use of different textures and shadows in the background makes it a more interesting photo. The whole photo is in focus, but the model is the focus of the photo, my eye is drawn to her. You cant see it very well but there is an Adidas logo on the models outfit, so this is a fashion shoot.

I found both of these slideshows useful, the first one is quite basic and gives simple definitions. The second one is of more detail and talks about how it affects the photo, it also talks about aperture. I found the second one helped me understand Depth Of Field better than the first one.

LIGHTING

This slideshow is a bit boring but it helped me understand. when I make my own I think i'll use Vee Speers as I really like her work and will create my own work inspired by her.

In this photo his hands are the main focus, I think this photo will be fun to recreate as it isn't too serious. The lighting in this photo is very strong.

In the photo below the light comes in from the left and creates strong shadows on the womans face and body. I like how the photo is in black and white, This photo would be easy to recreate in a studio using a digital camera.

Portrait by John Hedgecoe - Germaine Greer in 1970 (born January 29, 1939) an Australian academic, writer, and broadcaster, widely regarded as one of the most significant feminist voices of the 20th century. Greer is Professor Emeritus of English literature and Comparative Studies at the University of Warwick in England after having recently retired, and is the author of several highly acclaimed books. Her ground-breaking The Female Eunuch became an international bestseller when it was published in 1970, turning Greer overnight into a household name, and bringing her both adulation and criticism.<br>©2006 John Hedgecoe/TopFoto

FOCAL POINT

"The phrase "focal point" can mean a variety of things, but literally it is talking about focus. It refers to something that brings focus to itself, is a point where someone wants focus to be brought or where focus is being gathered. Its exact meaning changes in different contexts."

I chose this photo because the focal point really interests me. This is by Vee Speers from The birthday party. The girl in black is the focus point and it really draws attention as she looks mysterious.

http://digital-photography-school.com/using-focal-points-in-photography#ixzz2gMgvQMEg  is a really good help sight and it gave me these tips;

  • Position – Place it in a prominent position – you might want to start with the rule of thirds for some ideas.
  • Focus – Learn to use Depth of Field to blur out other aspects in front or behind your focal point.
  • Blur – If you really want to get tricky you might want to play with slower shutter speeds if your main subject is still and things around it are moving.
  • Size – making your focal point large is not the only way to make it prominent – but it definitely can help.
  • Color – using contrasting colors can also be a way of setting your point of interest apart from it’s surroundings.
  • Shape – similarly contrasting shapes and textures can make a subject stand out – especially patterns that are repeated around a subject.

  • This sight is really good as it is clear and easy read.

    COMPOSITION

    DEFINITION;
    "Composition, the act of composing the image in the viewfinder, is a visual process of organizing the elements and individual details of a scene into a balanced and pleasing arrangement. Because what one person finds pleasing, someone else will not, composition is largely a matter of personal taste"

    TIPS/HOW TO;

    Emphasizing and highlighting patterns will make striking shots.
    Symmetry gives a good point of interest, but without a strong point of interest the photo can be a bit predictable, experiment with symmetry and see whats best.
    http://digital-photography-school.com/5-elements-of-composition-in-photography Is a really good help sight for rules and tips, it helped me a lot as it is clear and set out well.

    FIRST ANALYSIS

    FACTUAL: Ralph John Perou is a British fashion, music and portrait photographer, born May 1970. His photographs are striking and unique. He appeared as a judge on "Make Me A Supermodel" and was part of the series "Dirty Sexy Things"
    CONTEXT: This is one of his many famous portraits, we know this as it is from a portrait collection.
    TECHNICAL: I think this was created in a studio, against a white background, using a black and white filter on a digital camera.
    AESTHETIC: I love that this photo is in black and white as I think it creates an element of mystery and makes the man the only thing to concentrate on because you aren't distracted by bright colours. I like how we cant see the models eyes because it makes the photo more interesting.
