Depth of field

Depth of Field Example Image

"Depth of field refers to the range of distance that appears acceptably sharp"

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/depth-of-field.htm Is a really good help sight for understanding Depth of field  it has good photos and information set out clearly.

This photo is of bad quality as it is from http://www.perou.co.uk/ which does not allow you to copy/save Perou's photos.
This photo has a very short depth of field as it is took in a studio against a white wall. The shot is in focus, even the background which makes it clear. Justin Bieber is the focus of this fashion shoot.

I had the same problem with this photo, but I like it as the depth of field isnt as big as it looks in the photo. The use of different textures and shadows in the background makes it a more interesting photo. The whole photo is in focus, but the model is the focus of the photo, my eye is drawn to her. You cant see it very well but there is an Adidas logo on the models outfit, so this is a fashion shoot.

I found both of these slideshows useful, the first one is quite basic and gives simple definitions. The second one is of more detail and talks about how it affects the photo, it also talks about aperture. I found the second one helped me understand Depth Of Field better than the first one.

LIGHTING

This slideshow is a bit boring but it helped me understand. when I make my own I think i'll use Vee Speers as I really like her work and will create my own work inspired by her.

In this photo his hands are the main focus, I think this photo will be fun to recreate as it isn't too serious. The lighting in this photo is very strong.

In the photo below the light comes in from the left and creates strong shadows on the womans face and body. I like how the photo is in black and white, This photo would be easy to recreate in a studio using a digital camera.

Portrait by John Hedgecoe - Germaine Greer in 1970 (born January 29, 1939) an Australian academic, writer, and broadcaster, widely regarded as one of the most significant feminist voices of the 20th century. Greer is Professor Emeritus of English literature and Comparative Studies at the University of Warwick in England after having recently retired, and is the author of several highly acclaimed books. Her ground-breaking The Female Eunuch became an international bestseller when it was published in 1970, turning Greer overnight into a household name, and bringing her both adulation and criticism.<br>©2006 John Hedgecoe/TopFoto
